Shrines of Britannia



Shrines are buildings existing in the Ultima universe, usually dedicated to an abstract concept, and intended to be places of meditation. "Temple" is a similar term, usually referring to a large shrine. Shrines are usually associated with the virtue or philosophical system of a society. The shrines dedicated to the Eight Virtues of Britannia are the most influential throughout the series.



Shrine of Compassion
A little to the west of Cove, and south of the Lock Lake, lies the Shrine of Compassion, dedicated to the virtue of the same name. The shrine is easy to reach by foot. The shrine lies in the middle of the romantic "Lovers' Walk", a beautiful garden with colorful flowers and bushes in the form of animals. Because of all this, the Shrine of Compassion is one of the most famous and well-kept in Britannia. Meditating at the shrine, the traveler has to chant the mantra "MU", to find the ways of Compassion.











Shrine of Honesty
Located on Dagger Isle, north of Verity Isle, lies the Shrine of Honesty, dedicated to the virtue of the same name. The shrine can only be reached by ship. Despite being hard to reach, Dagger Isle is a peaceful place for the shrine, with only a number of crypts nearby. Meditating at the shrine, the traveler has to chant the mantra "AHM", to find the ways of Honesty.












Shrine of Valor
Located on the southernmost of the Valorian Isles, directly south of Jhelom, lies the Shrine of Valor, dedicated to the virtue of the same name. The shrine can only be reached by ship. Despite being hard to reach, the island is a peaceful place for the shrine, surrounded by palm trees. Meditating at the shrine, the traveler has to chant the mantra "RA", to find the ways of Valor.












Shrine of Sacrifice
Located in the middle of the Drylands lies the Shrine of Sacrifice, dedicated to the virtue of the same name. The shrine in difficult to reach due to the unforgiving nature of the desert. Surrounded by the remains of Lake Generosity, the shrine can be reached by a bridge. Meditating at the shrine, the traveler has to chant the mantra "CAH", to find the ways of Sacrifice.












Shrine of Justice
Located on a peninsula north of Yew and the Deep Forest lies the Shrine of Justice, dedicated to the virtue of the same name. The shrine can easily be reached, even by foot. Located at the beautiful coast of northern Britannia, the shrine is a place for rest and spiritual search. Meditating at the shrine, the traveler has to chant the mantra "BEH", to find the ways of Justice.












Shrine of Honor
Located to the southwest of Trinsic at the shores of the Cape of Heroes lies the Shrine of Honor, dedicated to the virtue of the same name. In earlier times, the shrine had been difficult to reach, with poisonus swamps surrounding it. But the swamps have dried died in later ages, making reaching the shrine now easy. Meditating at the shrine, the traveler chants the mantra "SUMM", to learn the ways of Honor.











Shrine of Humility
Far from civilization and nestled between the mountains of the Isle of the Avatar lies the Shrine of Humility, accessible only by ship. With local volcanic activity falling dormant and other dangerous presences becoming scarce, the Isle has ultimately proved to be a peaceful location for the shrine. The meditating traveler has to chant the mantra, "Lum," to find the ways of Humility.












Shrine of Spirituality   
The Shrine of Spirituality rests on a floating dais in the Ethereal Void. As the sole method by which one arrives or departs is via moongate, the Shrine is adorned by a perennial exit gate leading back to the terrestrial realm. Meditating at the shrine, the traveler has to chant the mantra, om, to find enlightenment in the ways of Spirituality.
